Hyundai on Wednesday launched the Xcent, a sedan based on the Grand i10 platform at a starting price of Rs 4.66 lakh. Hyundai's new sub-4 metre compact sedan will take on the MarutiBSE 0.29 % Dzire and Honda Amaze. (Dont miss: 10 salient features of Hyundai Xcent)
Xcent, which has been launched in both petrol and diesel variants has been priced between Rs 4.66 lakh and Rs 7.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). While the petrol variant prices range from Rs 4.66 lakh to Rs 6.47 lakh, the diesel variant prices are from Rs 5.56 lakh to Rs 7.38 lakh. (Check variant specific pricing at the end of the article)
The Xcent is available in two engine options - the 1.1 litre second generation U2 CRDi diesel and the 1.2 litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol. While the diesel mill delivers 72PS@4000 rpm of power and peak torque at 18.4kgm@1750-2500, the petrol engine churns out 83PS@6000rpm of power and 11.6 kgm@4000 rpm of peak torque.
Hyundai says the diesel will give a mileage if 24.4 kmpl, the petrol is expected to deliver mileage of 19.1 kmpl (ARAI figure). The diesel comes witha 5-speed manual transmission while the petrol gets 5-speed manual and a 4- speed automatic.
The Grand i10 sedan, Xcent, is Hyundai's first foray into the hotly contested sub-4 meter sedan category. The Xcent was first showcased at the time of Auto Expo 2014 in February.
The car gets swept back headlamps and wrap-around tail lamps with chrome insert, chrome finish hexagonal air dam and a front bumper with integrated spiler design. It also gets dual tone rear bumpers and diamond cut alloy wheels. Generous amounts of chrome has beed used on door handles and trunk lid.
It will offer segment-first features like keyless push-button start, rear parking camera and sensors, auto-folding mirrors and electro-chromic rear-view mirror.
On the inside, the design has been carried forward almost as is from the hatchback and given the already comprehensive equipment list the Grand i10 comes with, similar list of features will hold the Xcent in good stead in its class against the Dzire and the Amaze.

The car gets three variants - Entry, S and SX. The S and SX also get an Optional package. The Xcent gets fully automatic AC, ABS (as an Option package for S and SX variants), rear arm rest, glove box cooling, steering mounted audio controls, dual air bags andrear defogger. The Xcent will be available in 6 new colors.
This new model is among the four new models that the company plans to launch in the next two years, including a compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), to enhance its position in the market.
