Angelina Jolie plays Villian RoleDisney's Maleficent

 Brand new pictures from Disney's Maleficent have been released showing off the world's most evil villain in all her glory.

The movie reveals the untold story of Sleeping Beauty baddie Maleficent. It's fair to say Angelina Jolie's casting as the most notorious villain in Disney history was a stroke of genius, as these images show: could there be a more frightening anti-hero?

Jolie recently revealed that her own children were afraid of her when they saw her filming scenes as Maleficent. We can't say we're surprised.

Jolie plays the sharp-cheeked Maleficent in the dark fantasy film, the villain who places a curse upon Princess Aurora at birth.

In the new spin on the original Disney classic cartoon Sleeping Beauty (1959), Elle Fanning plays Princess Aurora, who gets caught up in the middle of the battle between the forest kingdom in which she was raised, and the human world from her past.

Disney has flipped the fairytale on its head as we're introduced to the story behind Maleficent's evil ways. Why is she such a villain and why has her once pure heart been turned to stone?

All of the top movie baddies have an animal sidekick, right? In Maleficent, Jolie has a crafty-looking raven by her side.

Jolie's Maleficent is shown in a scene from the new movie as she fiercely tries to protect the land that she has presided over as her own.

The film also stars Imelda Staunton, Lesley Manville and Juno Temple as the three Pixies.

Judging by this silhouette of a knight against a beautiful sunset, we're in for a real cinematic treat.

The costume and make-up departments working on Maleficent must have had a field day when they realised they'd be transforming one of the world's most famous actresses into a terrible villain.
