The tall and svelte beauty is gearing up for her first film in Tollywood. Make way for Vaani Kapoor as she readies up for her first film Aaha Kalyanam. Vani Kapoor is a practical woman, she knows what she wants. Hard work is her mantra, and she promises that she has given her best shot in her first Telugu film. In conversation with Vaani Kapoor, who talks about her films, marriage and future plans…
Aaha Kalyanam is your first South Indian film. How was the experience?
It was wonderful working with the Aaha Kalyanam team. My co-star, director and the entire team was great to me. Very friendly people and I shared good comfort level. My director helped me a lot to understand the scenes and get the best out of me. I would term it as a very good experience.
Tell us about Nani? Have you watched his films before?
No, I haven’t watched any of his Telugu films. My friends would talk about Makki ( Eega in Telugu) but I never found the time to watch it. When I signed for Aaha Kalyanam, I watched some parts of Makki. Nani and I were very reserved to each other initially. After the first shot we kind of warmed up and hit off well. He is a nice guy, easy going person. No tantrums and very sweet. He also gets my jokes (laughs)
Aaha Kalyanam deals with weddings, do you love to attend weddings? What is your take on Indian Weddings?
Yes I love to attend marriages. I want a love marriage for myself. It’s nice to see the way families and friends bond during weddings. I am a north Indian and I love the weddings there. My sister’s wedding was awesome and I would like to marry in the similar style.
You won Filmfare award for your debut Suddhi Desi Romance. You must be feeling proud!
It feels great to be appreciated for one’s hard work. I am grateful to them for acknowledging my performance. Awards give you a sense that you are doing things right.
You did modeling before entering into films. When did you want to become actress?
Even before modeling I had plans to join films. Modeling was kind of launch pad for films. But then I am a very practical person. If this did not work out, I had plan B. Modeling paid my bills, acting is my passion. So far everything has worked out fine for me.
You look so svelte and have great physique. But we heard that you were obese before. Is that true? How did u lose weight and where did u get the confidence to become model?
Oh Yes! I was plump. I used to eat a lot of junk food. I had to exercise good control on my eating habits. Full stop to junk food. Now I eat properly and do regular gyming. I dance a lot. This has helped me in a big way.
Have you seen any south Indian films?
I have seen Alaipayuthey. In Malayalam I have seen Ustad Hotel. Also a Mahesh Babu film on Zee TV, can’t recall the name now.
Since this is remake of Band Bajaa Barat, people would compare you with Anushka Sharma. Are you prepared for this?
Not prepared at all. I am hoping that people receive my role in this film differently. I have not copied or imitated Anushka Sharma. I have put in a lot of hard work and tried to put in my own style. Of course there would be some similarity because the of the role, but I have put in my best effort to bring in uniqueness to my role.
Were there any intimate scenes in Aaha Kalyanam? Were you comfortable doing them?
There is an intimate scene in the film, which happens to be the turning point in the film. It’s crucial for the film. For me it was just like another shot. I have done a professional job.
What are your observations on working style of south Indian films?
They take long lunch breaks (laughs). My first film ( Shuddh Desi Romance) was very different. We barely had any free time. We were working round the clock. But here it is different. My director was easy going. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience.
What are your next films?
I am in talks for a Hindi film. Not much is happening in south as of now.
Naughtiest thing you did in life?
I am crazy person…but naughty…I really can’t think of any such thing. I can be a total Jim Carrey. But naughty…
Do you consider yourself a romantic?
Yes. I appreciate romance.
You’d rather live-in or go in for marriage?
Love marriage.
One actor that you die to work with?
Leonardo DiCaprio
