Review:

Set in the 1970s against the backdrop of Bangladesh Liberation War when an independent Bangladesh was formed, the film tracks the life of Bikram and Bala (Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor), two orphans who are caught up in the chaos. Inseparable since childhood, the two friends grow up to be coal bandits after shifting base to Kolkata. Their solidarity and comradeship is well known all over Kolkata. The two best friends soon become the most influential goons in the city. They fall in love with a cabaret dancer Nandita (Priyanka Chopra). ACP Satyajeet Sarkar (Irrfan Khan) sets out to put an end to their black market business. How the Bikram and Bala's friendship survives through all these hurdles forms the rest of the plot.

Indestructible friendship, chemistry, a hint of romance, a lot of action and high-on-emotion sequences - 'Gunday' has it all in good amounts. The director Ali Abbas Zafar has come a long way since his last film 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan'. 'Gunday' is far better in terms of editing, cinematography and depth. It is fast paced, power packed and fierce. The characters are brilliantly etched and Ranveer and Arjun's bromance is something that the men will look up to in the coming years. Even with its highs and lows in the plotline, never does the film lose its momentum. When Irrfan's track merges with that if Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, the film gradually progresses into an investigative flick. The climax is bound to leave you speechless.   The cinematographer Aseem Mishra deserves a special mention for capturing each and every setting brilliantly.

Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor's chemistry is the USP of the film. The two infuse undying energy into every frame they appear in. Both characters completely different from each and yet so similar, Bikram and Bala are the epitome of bromance. They're hilariously amusing and fierce with equal finesse. Ranveer is setting the bar higher up with each film and Arjun Kapoor has done exceedingly well, considering it is just his second film. Watch out for these two performers in the future. Priyanka Chopra looks hot as ever but her character's styling looks awfully out of place. While the rest of the characters look every part of the 1970s, Priyanka Chopra looks straight out of a high-on-glamour 2014 flick. Needless to say, Irrfan Khan delivers a stunning performance as the cunning cop.

Sohail Sen's music is already hogging the charts. All the tracks are high on energy and enjoyable. If you're not hooked on to 'Tune Maari Entriyaan' yet, wait till you walk out of the theatre. 'Jiya' and 'Jaan-e-Ishqa' too, are wonderfully composed.

Verdict: Ranveer and Arjun Kapoor's bromance is one of the best you would have ever seen on celluloid. There is no way you should miss out on 'Gunday'.
