Hyundai Xcent compact sedan based on the Hyundai Grand i10 hatchback has been unveiled for the Indian market. Hyundai has chosen to revive the ‘Accent’ brand but with a small twist, this car is aimed at the gen-X and thus the name. The Hyundai Xcent is essentially a Grand i110 with a boot stuck at the back.
Here are some highlights of the car in brief:
- Hyundai says there will be petrol and diesel powertrains, we expect them to be the same as the Grand i10
- Design-wise the Xcent is the same as the Grand i10 from the front till the rear doors. New boot, bumper and tail-lamps
- Inside, the Xcent is the same as the Grand i10 except for the single-tone seats and the armrest for the rear seat
- No mention of the boot capacity for nowGets the same equipment as the Grand i10, nothing new
Hyundai Xcent Exterior Design
As with most other compact sedans in the country, the Hyundai Xcent looks exactly like its hatchback sibling except for the rear. The Grand i10 is a much loved design and one of the more sedate executions of the Hyundai’s ‘fluidic’ design concept, and the Xcent gets the same traits. The swept back headlamps, the small grille, the massive air-dam, ‘diamond-cut’ alloy wheels, big inverted-curve line on the side and the front and side glass house area is ditto like the Grand i10. Move further back and you see the boot, which has been blended in well though it does look boxy if looked straight on from the back, a chrome strip above the number plate holder, a spoiler integrated onto the boot-lid and new tail-lamps. Oh, and the new bumper as well.
Hyundai Xcent Interior Design
As with the exterior there is almost nothing that separates the way the interiors of the Xcent look from the one in the Grand i10. The dual-tone interior is the same, with the three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, the console mounted gearshift, the circular A/C vents, etc. etc. There are some things that are different though, the seat covers are not dual-tone like the ones on the hatchback, it is all beige. The second thing is that the rear-bench gets a centre arm-rest with cup-holders. That’s it.
Hyundai Xcent Features
The equipment list on the Hyundai Xcent compact sedan is the same as the Grand i10 hatch, which means that it gets:

Hyundai Xcent Performance and Handling
For now all that Hyundai is saying is that the Hyundai Xcent compact sedan will be powered by a diesel and a petrol engine which will be mated to either an automatic or a manual gearbox. We expect that Hyundai will plonk in the 1.2-litre 82 BHP / 113 Nm petrol engine and the 1.1-litre 70 BHP / 159 Nm diesel engine from the Grand i10 in the Xcent too. What we are interested to see is if Hyundai will offer their 4-speed automatic gearbox with the diesel variant, as they have not done the same with the Grand i10. Tata will offer a 5-speed AMT with the diesel variant of the recently unveiled Tata Zest compact sedan, so there is a possibility that Hyundai may do the same with the Xcent. The suspension would have been tuned differently, but we’ll have to drive it till we can get a better idea about ride and handling. (Carblog)
