2013 is nearing its end and has seen its share of highs and lows and if one were to assess the future based on appearances, then 2014 is certain to be a year of blockbusters.
In the first month of 2014 we are presented with an epic head-to-head clash between Ajith and Vijay with their respective commercial pot boilers, Veeram and Jilla, gearing up for Pongal release. With hardly any respite on the offing for the average Tamil cinema, they would be soon bombarded with the magnificence of Rajini’s Kochadaiyaan and Kamal’s grand sequel, Vishwaroopam-2, making it a dream start to the year. A lot would be expected from Kamal’s Uthamma Villain as well.
Director Shankar's releases are ushered in as an event by themselves and the ambitious 'Ai' featuring the super versatile Vikram will undoubdtedly receive a rousing reception.
The second half of the year promises more excitement as the reunion of Vijay and A.R.Murugadoss, with music by Anirudh, targeting a Deepavali release and likewise the yet to be titled ‘Thala55’, the union of Ajith and Gautham Menon, plans to wrap up their shoot in a single schedule in a bid to release the film the same year. Gautham Menon will be making sure that he stamps his authority early on in the year with Simbu’s Sattendru Maarudhu Vaanilai.
Suriya fans too will be licking their lips with their favorite hero’s upcoming projects. The Lingusamy project will promise to be a wholesome action entertainer while the recently announced Venkat Prabhu project may throw in a few surprises in terms of concept and character for Suriya.
As if the year was not getting hot enough with competition, it will be playing host to atleast couple of releases each from the likes of Arya, Jiiva, Vishal and Jayam Ravi. Karthi too is giving it his all for Kaali.
Then there are promising new talents who have made big earnings in the box office this year – Vijay Sethupathi and Sivakarthikeyan. Both heroes have interesting projects such as Pannaiyarum Padminiyum and Maan Karate lined up in their kitty which is expected to gross good returns for the investors.
Apart from all this, the industry could spring up a few surprises and introduce us to new stars and new talents which is always a welcome sign.
