Off late, there have been several masala films catering to the masses. So a movie like Kaizad Gustad’s Jackpot is a welcome respite. Bollywood Celebden presents Jackpot Review.

Rating: 3.5/5

Kaizad Gustad, the bohemian film-maker took a ten year hiatus after his last movie Boom, which was a major debacle. This ensured there are a lot of expectations from his comeback film Jackpot, which stars Naseeruddin Shah, Sachiin Joshi and Sunny Leone.

As the name suggests, Jackpot is centered around casino boats in Goa. The movie’s title track vaguely reminds the audiences of a James Bond film. After this, the characters are gradually introduced. The numerous sub-plots seem mysterious and don’t really make sense initially as the viewer is left confused. The movie follows a gang of amateur con artists who plan a major con.

The director Kaizad ensures there is enough suspense by structuring the film in a non-linear format which swiches back and forth, adding to the mystery and the confusion. At times, the viewer might even curse the director because of the confusion.

Just when the viewer is driven to the point of frustration, the sub-plots merge into the story and make sense; in the second half. All the confusion, the unanswered questions, the mysteries are solved in the second half. The pace of the movie is apt for a thriller; the twists and turns in the story catch you unawares. The background score in combination with the excellent photography makes the movie a treat.

The songs are also blended smartly into the narrative. Though the romance between Sachiin and Sunny in the song Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse is not exactly convincing, the song is good.

Sachiin and Sunny improved considerably from their previous acting ventures. Naseeruddin Shah’s performance is something we can’t even comment on. He leaves the audiences in awe.

Overall verdict: Worth a watch…
