Indian automobile giant Tata Motors is aiming at improving its service network in order to boost consumer confidence in its vehicles. Tata Motors is working on a plan to rationalise the number of platforms to two from the six at the present. The company said that the motive behind the move is improved efficiency, better consumer satisfaction and cost cutting.
Tata Motors recently introduced compact SUV Nexon. The company is also looking at electric vehicles segment. Automobile industry analysts see strong potential in electric cars market. Indian consumer is cost conscious and if companies can offer low cost vehicle in electric segment, it can be come a major success in the local market. With crude trading strong in the recent two months, automobile companies are looking seriously at electric vehicle segment.
“We have decided to rationalise the number of platforms. Instead of creating unnecessary cost structure by [having] multiple platforms, you create single platform on which you can provide multiple shapes. All our future products will be based on the new platform,” said Mayank Pareek, president-passenger vehicles business unit.
Tata Motors is expecting stronger sales in the second half of current year. During the first half of the year, the company witnessed lower growth due to GST implementation.

Tata had successfully worked their way to achieve their goal of Tata 2.0 – the aim of becoming a modern and aspirational carmaker. After the Tiago, the Hexa and the Tigor, Tata Motors introduced their first ever compact SUV, the Nexon.
The Nexon is Tata’s first sub-four metre SUV and has been visually built around the design cues of the Zest and Bolt while retaining the dimensional strengths of the present segment contenders like the EcoSport and TUV300. The Nexon flaunts Tata’s new IMPACT design philosophy. The high stance, flared wheel arches and a large imposing grille gives it the required brawn despite its curvy body lines. There are dual tone body paint available as well which gives the Nexon a stylish stance. The rear is bit of an overkill, but goes well with the overall appearance of the crossocer.

On the inside, the Tata Nexon starts with the ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system from Harmann nested in the centre console. The interior gets a three-tone layout with exterior colour highlights. It gets automatic climate control, electrically operated wing mirrors and fabric upholstery along with steering mounted audio controls. For safety, dual front airbags and ABS with EBD is standard across the range. The Tata Nexon gets a brand new 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that develops 108bhp of power and comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. You also have a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine option with exactly same power figures but of course lower torque output than the diesel. Tata will introduce AMT options for both the engine options in near future. The Nexon competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Honda WR-V, Mahindra TUV300and the recently updated Ford Ecosport.
